The assumption among Mr Trump's opponents is that he will be mercurial and erratic, ultimately a disaster for America. Mr Trump is a proud dealmaker, often citing his own books, especially The Art of the Deal from 1992. Had Ms Clinton won, we would likely see more continuity than change, akin to an Obama third term of sorts. He may not even know Southeast Asia well but will have a new slate to work with devoid of legacy issues. The extent of Mr Trump's pragmatism and willingness to delegate and empower the policy hands around him will need to be watched.
